Red Hot Chili Peppers deny split

The rockers announced a year-long hiatus last year, and have now decided to extend it by a further six months.

But they insisted they weren't splitting up, just taking a much-needed break.

Speaking to Q magazine, drummer Chad Smith said: "We're not playing right now, but we played a lot before. It was time to take a little break and live your life."

Smith is currently recording with new 'supergroup' Chickenfoot, made up of Joe Satriani and Van Halen's Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony.

The four-piece, who release their self-titled LP on June 8, will perform at the O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire on June 25 and at a number of summer festivals.

Meanwhile, Chili Peppers bassist Flea has signed up to study music at a California university

AC/DC ticket fraud to be investigated

POLICE have started a probe into an alleged ticket scam after hundreds of AC/DC fans were turned away from a concert this weekend.

Fans who arrived at the legendary's rock band's gig in Birmingham on Saturday to collect their tickets were turned away after being told they had been conned by counterfeiters.

Others who already had tickets were being turned away after they were scanned at the entrance of the LG Arena at the NEC and found to be fakes.

Many of those who had legitimate tickets missed the first hour of the show as massive queues formed outside the venue.

Police arrested two men at the scene on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud. An investigation into the internet arm of the deception is ongoing.

A spokeswoman for the NEC Group said: "West Midlands Police are now investigating this matter. Regrettably the tickets in question were fraudulent so we had no choice but to refuse these fans entry."

Last night a spokesman for West Midlands police said: Two men, aged 41 and 32, were arrested at the NEC LG Arena on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud.

They both continue to help police with their inquiries.

Paul McCartney chased by 50 Miss USA finalists

Sir Paul McCartney was chased by 50 Miss USA finalists.

The throng of beauties - including Miss Michigan, Miss Nevada and Miss Connecticut - booked in for dinner at the 66-year-old rocker's hotel in Las Vegas on Saturday night (18.04.09) in the hope of meeting him.

A source said: "One girl heard Paul was in town and hunted him down. The girls were staying at Planet Hollywood, where the Miss USA contest was being staged, and discovered Paul's hotel was across the road. No one could stop them from looking for him, they were screeching with excitement."

The girls bombarded the former Beatle with love notes and flowers, sending them to his luxurious suite but Paul - who has been dating millionairess Nancy Shevell since November 2007 - wouldn't come out of his room.

The source added to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "Paul declined as he probably felt Nancy wouldn't be so enthralled. A couple of the girls even ran a competition to see who would be the first to get a picture or autograph, but no one even managed that."

Paul was in Las Vegas to play a concert at the Hard Rock Hotel on Sunday night (19.04.09).

Kings Of Leon Make The Cover Of The Rolling Stone

For years, Tennessee rockers Kings Of Leon's reputation has been that while they had a solid career and a fanbase in the U.S, it paled in comparison to the superstar status they received overseas. Well with last year's Only By The Night and the smash hits "Sex On Fire" and "Use Somebody," it appears that the Kings' popularity here has caught up with their successes across the pond.

The Kings are currently out on their first-ever headlining tour of North America, and are expected to be announced next week as a headliner at Lollapalooza. However, the band is most excited by an honor they received this week: the cover of the newest Rolling Stone.

"It's the cover of Rolling Stone, man. You dream about that when you start a band. It's, like, the greatest thing," frontman Caleb Followill told MTV News. "It's definitely one of those things ... that I'm pretty sure it will sink in down the road a little bit, and we'll be like, 'Holy sh--, what happened?' I mean, I still have a Rolling Stone magazine that says 'Kings of Leon' on the front of it. And to me, that was like the pinnacle."

"I don't know what made this album bigger than the rest. I think it was a series of events, between Saturday Night Live and headlining Glastonbury," drummer Nathan Followill added. "Glastonbury was big, because it was us, Jay-Z and, I don't know, Coldplay or Oasis or one of those bands. And I think that kind of got America's attention, like, 'Holy sh--, these guys are headlining the same festival that Jay-Z is?' Between that and SNL and [playing] the Garden and 'Sex on Fire' being the first song that really has ever done sh-- for us on the radio, I think this was the record that America was finally like, 'All right, now we finally get it.' "

The band is of course pleased to have reached a certain level of success back home. "It's a relief, for sure, because you want to be accepted in your home. Obviously, the U.K. and Europe have a lot to do with the Kings of Leon still being around. If it was based on America, record sales and airplay, we probably wouldn't have got to make a third record, let alone a fourth record," Nathan laughed. "But it does feel good to get recognized in the grocery store by somebody other than your mom or you fiancée. We're stoked."

Dave Matthews free download

Through a 'tweet' on Twitter.com today, Dave Matthews band have announced that they are giving away their new single, 'Funny the Way It Is,' as a free download for one week!!
Dave (@davejmatthews) and bassist Stefan Lessard (@slessard) are both very active on Twitter, keeping touch with their fanbase and decided it was the perfect place to get the word out.

The song comes off their upcoming album, Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, which hits stores on June 2nd. It will be the band's first studio album since the death of saxophonist LeRoi Moore last summer.

The "GrooGrux King" in the album title refers to Moore’s nickname within the group. Matthews created all of the artwork for Big Whiskey, including the richly detailed cover illustration that puts a GrooGrux spin on New Orleans’ traditional Mardi Gras parades while evoking the joy and the sorrow expressed in the album’s songs.

Matthews has designed logos and other elements in the past, but this is the first time he has created the entire packaging for a Dave Matthews Band album.
Guitarist Tim Reynolds will play on the album, making it his first recording with DMB since 1998’s Before These Crowded Streets. The album was produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Goo Goo Dolls).

Dave Matthews Band kicks off its 2009 tour tonight with a show at Madison Square Garden in New York City and will be on the road through October 2nd. Please visit http://www.davematthewsband.com/ for a full itinerary of the band’s spring and summer tours – and also check the website for the launch of the Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King pre-order later this week.

Download 'Funny the Way It Is' for FREE here all this week: www.rcarecords.com/dmbfreedownload
Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King is out June 2nd.

Black Sabbath - Paranoid (Deluxe Edition)!

Review of Black Sabbath's album Paranoid (Deluxe Edition) released through Universal Music.

Times may change but the course of history can never be altered, so no matter that the name of Ozzy Osbourne has become synonymous with reality television, spoilt brats for children and an annoying self-obsessed spouse, the fact his band Black Sabbath pretty much wrote the rule book and defined a whole musical genre with one record will always remain their legacy. And what a legacy too, having created possibly the most instantly recognisable riff in the history of heavy metal, not to mention inspired literally every band that's dared to grow their hair beyond shoulder length whilst turning the knobs on the second-hand Marshall stacks as high as they'll go, Black Sabbath quite rightly deserved their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three years ago.

In fact, upon listening to 'Paranoid' the album, its hard to believe it was written and recorded nearly forty years ago such is its timeless quality, and even though numerous sub-genres have come and gone in the period since, there will always be a place for near-perfect collections such as this. As difficult to believe in the current context as it may be, Black Sabbath weren't always perceived as the groundbreaking icons this record assured them of being. It was only several months previous that their debut album, 'Black Sabbath', had been giving a mauling by the music press on both sides of the pond, and even looking back at the recording of this album its hard to comprehend that the title track of 'Paranoid' was only a late inclusion on the record, initially seen by the band as little more than additional filler placed alongside the more complex aversions contained elsewhere on the album.

Even back then, the record wasn't exactly welcomed by all and sundry, but Joe Public voted via their wallets and over time it has become something of a symbolic moment in the history and development of rock music in general - an everlasting body of work that like all classics of bygone eras, never deteriorates with age.
So what do you get on this 'Deluxe' edition that makes it a worthwhile addition to your collection? Well, to be perfectly honest, if you already own the album in one of its many issues and formats, there isn't really a great deal else other than sentiment to make you want to invest in this. Sure, the 3-CD set looks aesthetically pretty all boxed up and exquisitely packaged, but content wise, there isn't an awful lot else going on that you wouldn't already possess. The first disc contains the original album, while the second features a quadraphonic stereo version that was mixed in 1974 but doesn't really offer anything substantially different. The third disc, billed as 'previously unreleased material' was probably only thus so because there was little point in releasing instrumental only demos of six of the eight tracks combined with alternative lyrical practice sessions of 'Paranoid' and 'Planet Caravan', which again, don't really stand up too well when compared to the finished versions on the record.

Nevertheless, 'Paranoid' really is an incredible album, from the opening bars of 'War Pigs' through to the pulsating climax of 'Fairies Wear Boots', allegedly written about a scrape Osbourne and co. got themselves into with a group of Brummy skinheads. It probably goes without saying that if you don't own this record, then you really ought to invest in it, but by the same token if you already do, then there really isn't much here for anyone other than avid Black Sabbath collectors to get their teeth into.

Today Lesson--->Secret of Metal Guitar

Hi all! I've played in my room and I think why not talk about metal guitar! This is an interesting instrumet... maybe the most difficult...

Metal guitar is a widely varied style. The players who use the most varied technique and style within their metal system are often the most interesting.
Lot of Metal players like to use the pedal points, They very usefull and allow for big emphasise on the chords. Otherwise they help push the rhythm.

I always use pedals when I step up with my band somewhere. That's the most important key of the success.
okay... The other key is the minor. First it's sound astonishing but you can find it in the most cool metal songs. It's give your songs that dark feel.

When I was 15 years old I saw a guitar video...about Metal techniques. The most usefull was the
fast guitar pickin:

You have to use the alternate picking to allow for much faster rhythmic playing. Now you have to fill in the gap between upstrokes and downstroke beats. It's very fast. You can play double or triple speed this way.

And than just turn up the gain on your amp to get more of metal tone and riff on the E string.

I like this good rhythmic exercise becouse keep your alternate picking in continual accurate, uncluttered motion which is very important and essence of that "machine gun" sound...

That's all folks for today! I hope you find it useful:)

Metallica forgeries hit new high

"If you didn't see them signed yourself, your Metallica autographs probably aren't real," says "Autograph" publisher Steven Cyrkin. Already one of the most forged bands of all time, with their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Metallica forgeries have hit an all-time high.

From eBay, to fan and dealer Web sites, to many of the fancy galleries in tourist spots, criminals are preying on Metallica's unsuspecting fans. You can find out if your Metallica autographs, or ones you're thinking of buying, are suspect in a 10 page feature in the May issue of "Autograph" magazine that traces the band's autographs from 1982 to today.

"The number of Metallica forgeries being offered rivals the number of forged Barack Obama autographs peddled after he was elected president," continues Cyrkin. "It's so bad that we asked the chief authenticator of the largest autograph authentication service, PSA/DNA, to write an article that shows how to identify genuine Metallica signatures."

The authenticator is Steve Grad, a rabid Metallica fan with one of the largest Metallica autograph collections in the world. There are photographs of 28 genuine Metallica-signed items in the article, including an autographed flyer from 1982 -- the earliest band-signed piece Grad and the magazine have seen.

"My favorite piece is an autographed 8x10 photo from 1983 that we show life-size in the article. The band signed only 100 of them, which they sent to the first 100 members of the Metallica fan club. Only a few have surfaced over the years," Cyrkin says.

The article gives details on the history of the band's signing habits throughout their career. And fans and collectors can compare their Metallica autographs to the ones in the article to determine if they are likely real.

"Two factors make rock attractive to forgers," Cyrkin says. "First, rock stars that have been around for decades have more fans who can afford to buy rare and expensive items. For many bands, like The Beatles and Led Zeppelin, genuine signed items like albums and guitars are extremely rare or do not exist. Most are not available at any price from legitimate dealers and auction houses, but the sellers of forgeries are happy to meet the demand. Second, in the case of hot, touring bands like Metallica, members stop signing as much as they see their autographs being offered all over the Internet."

"Autograph's" May Metallica Hall of Fame issue is $8.95. It is only available through their Web site by advance order, or with a subscription ordered by April 17. The issue mails the last week of April. The magazine is a niche publication that is not available in stores. It can be ordered at

Kurt Cobain estate 'loses' $750m

-$750m gone from Cobain's estate
-Fake accounts used to buy, sell property
-Homes to be donated to credit crisis victims
KURT Cobain's estate has lost all the money left to his widow Courtney Love and their daughter, Frances Bean, in an alleged money laundering scam.

The New York Post reports bank accounts using the social security numbers of Cobain, Love and Frances Bean were allegedly set up to buy and sell real estate across the US.

"There is now a web of homes which were bought, flipped and used to launder money - up to $US500 million worth," Love's lawyer Rhonda J. Holmes said.

"Any of the property we can get back will be donated to people who have lost their homes in foreclosures."

Investigators, forensic accountants and lawyers hired by Love found that the Nirvana singer's estate had lost more than $45 million cash and up to $705 million in real estate.

"I have never seen such greed and moral turpitude. This case is going to make Bernard Madoff look warm and fuzzy," Ms Holmes said.

"We've only been able to track down $US30 million, but there is more. And then there is the real estate."

Ms Holmes said that Love only noticed the money was gone when there wasn't any left.

Kurt Cobain, the lead singer of hit nineties grunge band Nirvana, was found dead in his home in 1994.

Hendrix Style /how to play the guitar/

His famous riffs and licks are played all over the world.Jimi was a great player, but also a great songwriter - he had very good worked-out chord progressions in his playing, and his chord embelishments made his distinctive style.

It is important to write that Jimi was a master in moving through voicings and playing melodies at the same time. He often used a lot two or maybe three different tonalities in songs. This shows that his chord technique must have been flawless, as he could connect chords in such beatiful manner.Jimi was a master of using double stops to accentuate his solo playing...In this example, the key is F, and our main double stops consist of/how to play the guitar/:

1. Holding down the 5th of the F chord (the C on the 1st string, 8th fret) while we hammer and pull between the G and A below it

2. Holding down the root of the F chord (the F either on the 1st string, 13th fret or 2nd string, 6th fret) while we hammer and pull between the C and D.
He also made use of basic chord inversions while interweaving them with blues licks.Hendrix often played the major 9 chord with his thumb on the 6th string (T) and would slide the chord to different positions...

He starts with a F major 9 and slides the chord pattern to up to G, A, Bb, C major 9 and then slides back.Another one of Hendrix trademarks was the use of his thumb while playing a solo or lick. The common lick what Hendrix would use is:Hold down the 6th string (A) note with your thumb. While the bass note is ringing bend the 3rd string 7th fret (D) up to (E)and release back to D then finish the lick with the 3rd fret 5th string and finally A on the 4th string 7th fret. /how to pay the guitar/

It is not too dificult to play, this licks requre a special attention , as we use two, and sometimes three fingers together playing some of the parts. Try to play it as slowly and cleanly as you possibly can.

If there is one Jimi Hendrix lick that sticks in my mind the most, I would have to say it's the onewhere he bends up a note and pre-bends and releases another note at the same time.I think it's very cool.

Metallica, Run-D.M.C. Inducted Into Rock Hall

Heavy metal, hip-hop and guitar rock highlighted last night's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony in Cleveland, as Metallica, Run-D.M.C. and Jeff Beck were among the several inductees honored.

A very happy Metallica were all smiles and hugs when they accepted their honors along with Ray Burton, the father of former bassist Cliff Burton, who died in a bus accident in 1986. The special occasion also saw Metallica reunite with Jason Newsted, who was the heavy metal band's bass player for 15 years, and had appeared on the classic albums '...And Justice for All' and 'Metallica.' Both Metallica and Newsted were onstage together performing 'Master of Puppets' and 'Enter Sandman.'

"An award like this at a time when Metallica is still current, vital and relevant is just an honor," said guitarist Kirk Hammett at the podium. "It's a truly, truly great honor to be with you guys in this wild music adventure and I'm looking forward to continuing to create inspired music."

The fact that the six of us can be up on the stage tonight-snot-nosed kids, outcasts, loners who grew up in very different parts of the world," said drummer Lars Ulrich, "and make it here tonight ... rock 'n' roll truly is about possibilities."
In his speech Metallica lead singer James Hetfield dropped names such as Deep Purple, Rush, Kiss, Motorhead and Alice Cooper, "who we would love to invite through the door now." He then said: "I want to thank Lars for calling me so we can include each other in our dreams of being in the greatest heavy metal band in the world."
Rapper Eminem, who wore a dark leather jacket and a fedora, introduced pioneering rap act Run-D.M.C., known for their classic songs such as 'King of Rock' and 'Sucker's M.C.'s.' Present at the ceremony were surviving members Reverend Run (Joseph Simmons) and D.M.C. (Daryl McDaniels); their DJ, Jam Master Jay (Jason Mizell), was murdered in 2002. Connie Mizell was there to accept the honors for her son.
"Two turntables and a microphone," Eminem told the audience. "That's all it took to change the world." "There was something about the big drums and the strong raps that grabbed hold of my ears and changed my life. Run-D.M.C's effect on popular culture cannot be overstated ... For me to be up there and inducting them is one of the biggest honors of my career."

English rock guitar legend Jeff Beck, who was inducted into the Hall as a member of the Yardbirds in 1992, was introduced by his former Yardbirds bandmate Jimmy Page. In addition to playing with the Yardbirds, Beck went on to form the Jeff Beck Group and later recorded albums such as 'Blow By Blow' and 'Wired.' At the Hall of Fame ceremony, Beck performed 'Beck's Bolero,' and then was joined by Page for a rendition of Led Zeppelin's 'Immigrant Song.'
The other honorees present at the ceremony were vocal group Little Anthony and the Imperials, best known for their late '50s and '60s hits 'Going Out of My Head' and 'Hurt So Bad,' and veteran soul singer Bobby Womack. Both acts were introduced by Smokey Robinson and Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood, respectively.

The evening culminated with the all-star jam as Metallica, Beck, Page and Wood, along with Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea and Aerosmith's Joe Perry, rocked together on 'Train Kept-A-Rollin'.'

In addition, the other inductees for this year's Hall of Fame honors were rockabilly vocalist Wanda Jackson for the early influence category; and musicians "Spooner" Oldham, DJ Fontana and the late Bill Black for the sidemen category. The induction ceremony, which was broadcasted on Fuse TV, was held in Cleveland for the first time since 1997. The names of the inductees were previously announced in January.

Remaining Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr performed together at a New York charity show on Saturday night, their first time together in seven years.

The pair appeared at a show headlined by McCartney in aid of The David Lynch Foundation, an organisation fronted by the film director which promotes transcendental meditation in schools. McCartney played a handful of The Beatles tunes as well as some from his solo career before bringing Ringo onstage to perform The Beatles standard 'With a Little Help from My Friends'.
McCartney also paid a tearful tribute to the late John Lennon, reports the BBC, before playing 'Here Today', a song he wrote for him. He also dedicated The Beatles classic'Blackbird', which is sometimes claimed to be a tribute to the American civil rights movement, to US President Barack Obama.

After McCartney played his set he introduced Starr as "Billy Shears", Starr's pseudonym on 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'.
Starr, who had previously sang 'Yellow Submarine' and 'Boys' during his own set, then played drums backing McCartney's 'Cosmically Conscious'.
The legends last performed together at a tribute concert for the late George Harrison in 2002. They were joined by Eric Clapton on 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' at the Royal Albert Hall show.

Plus, METALLICA fans on the European tour dates can win exclusive tickets to the SONISPHERE festivals and get their hands on signed Guitar Hero: Metallica merchandise.

A lucky few will also win the chance to play the game on the main stage at a SONISPHERE in front of tens of thousands of fans, whilst two competition winners from each country will bag the ultimate prize: The chance to meet METALLICA!

Become a legend this year with Guitar Hero: Metallica as you play through the stunning musical career of the world’s greatest metal band. Shred on guitar, rip on drums and wail on the mic to a set list featuring over 45 explosive hits from Metallica’s illustrious career and a wide variety of other legendary artists personally selected by the band, such as SONISPHERE allies ALICE IN CHAINS, MACHINE HEAD, MASTODON, THIN LIZZY and THE SWORD.

As part of Activision’s sponsorship of the SONISPHERE Festivals, each of METALLICA’s tour dates will also include Guitar Hero: Metallica pre-show events, giving fans the opportunity to unleash their inner rock god on specially made Guitar Hero stages before the release of Guitar Hero: Metallica in May 2009.

In addition, there will also be a variety of free limited edition Guitar Hero: Metallica items up for grabs, as well as after-parties featuring live DJs, on-stage Guitar Hero: Metallica dueling for prizes and celebrity face-offs, at some venues.

'Guitar Hero: Metallica is all about putting the ultimate metal experience into the hands of gamers and evolving the relationship between music and gaming,' says Sian Evans, European marketing manager, Activision, 'Sponsoring the SONISPHERE Festivals in 2009 is a great extension of this and being able to give fans a chance to play the game before the band’s European tour shows is a fantastic opportunity to share the passion within the game with some of their biggest fans.'

Faith No More to headline Hove

A reunited Faith No More will headline this year's Hove Festival in Norway. It is eleven years since the band initially split up, and Hove is one of the few hand-picked festivals in Europe which can add the band to their line-up. The legendary rock band will headline on Thursday the 25th of June. So far Hove is the bands’ only confirmed gig in Scandinavia.

'Their headline performance at Pheonix in 1993 is still ringing in my ears. This is a hell of a coup for Hove! Faith No More’s music remains relevant today and their influence over today's younger bands is huge' commented Melvin Benn, who in addition to Norway’s Hove Festival is one of the main organisers for Glastonbury, Latitude, Reading and Leeds.

Situated on an island close to the southern city of Arendal, the Hove Festival site is surrounded by deep woods and a mirror-like ocean. This is the most natural location for a festival that prides itself in being the first carbon neutral festival in Scandinavia.

The line up so far includes among others: The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Slipknot, The Ting Tings, Q-Tip, Fleet Foxes, Crookers, Disturbed, Metronomy, Eagles of Death Metal and many more.

Hove 2009 will take place between the 22nd and 25th of June. For tickets and more info about the festival, see www.hovefestival.com.
